About Us

Who we are

A Legacy of Compassion, A Future of Hope

Edmund Rice Centre Nairobi is a ministry of the Christian Brothers, Africa Province, dedicated to supporting children with disabilities and their families through inclusive education, healthcare, empowerment, and advocacy.

As a transition and support centre, ERCN works with children living with Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Multiple Disabilities, including conditions such as cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus with spina bifida. Through a holistic and community-based approach, the Centre addresses educational, health, social, and economic barriers that affect children with disabilities and their caregivers.

Today, ERCN implements four integrated core programs:

  • Mary Rice Special Unit – providing specialized education, Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), creative learning, and pre-vocational skills training.
  • Health & Nutrition Program – offering medical support, nutritional supplementation, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy.
  • Socio-Economic Empowerment Program – strengthening caregivers and families through sustainable livelihood initiatives.
  • Advocacy & Community Outreach Program – promoting disability inclusion, caregiver empowerment, and community awareness on human rights.

Guided by compassion, dignity, and inclusion, ERCN continues to empower children and families to thrive, gain independence, and participate meaningfully in society.

Our Story

Edmund Rice Centre Nairobi (ERCN) was established in 2007 as Mary Rice Centre in response to the exclusion of children with disabilities in Kibera from accessing education and healthcare services. What began as a small initiative focused on providing basic learning skills, nutrition, and health support gradually evolved as the needs of children and their families became more evident.

Over time, the Centre expanded its services to address the interconnected challenges affecting children with disabilities, including access to therapy, family empowerment, inclusion, and community awareness. Through years of dedicated service, ERCN grew into a holistic support centre committed not only to the well-being of learners but also to strengthening families and communities.

In 2020, the Centre was officially renamed Edmund Rice Centre Nairobi to reflect its expanded mandate and integrated approach to disability inclusion and empowerment.

Today, ERCN continues to transform lives through education, healthcare, empowerment, and advocacy, creating a future where children with disabilities are valued, included, and given equal opportunities to reach their full potential.
