SPECIAL NEED EDUCATION

​​The Special needs education project in Edmund Rice Centre is tailored to meet the individualized needs of learners with disabilities, learning differences and exceptionalities from Kibera slums and its surrounding. The goal of this project is to provide these learners with the necessary support and skills to help them access education, develop essential skills, and reach their fullest potential.

HEALTH AND NUTRITION​​
Health project entail Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physiotherapy (PT)services. While nutrition services involves providing personalized guidance, support, and resources to address the unique dietary needs and challenges of individuals with disabilities. The integration of these services aims to address the specific challenges and needs of children with disabilities so as to promote independence, and facilitate active participation in educational and social environments. The goal of this project is to promote the physical, mental, and emotional health of children with disabilities from Kibera slums.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC EMPOWEREMENT
​Socio economic empowerment project aim is to support children with disabilities and their household to improve their overall quality of life, enhance their opportunities for education, independence and social inclusion. The project does this by equipping this learners and their households with a range of skills that promote independence, self-sufficiency and financial independency through IGAs. Other skills include, Pre-Vocation training skills in beadwork, mat making, urban farming, catering, dressmaking, hairdressing/barber and soap making.​

ADVOCACY

The goal of an advocacy project in Edmund Rice Centre is to raise awareness, promote understanding, and advocate for improved access, quality, and inclusivity in education for individuals with special needs from Kibera slum. Advocacy plays a crucial role in ERCN by raising awareness, promoting inclusivity, driving policy changes, and ensuring that individuals with special needs have access to quality education and support from parents, community and the government.

MARY RICE SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM​​
The Sponsorship program offers support to sibling of Mary Rice special unit to access education that might otherwise be inaccessible due to financial constraints. They cover expenses such as tuition fees, educational materials, assistive devices and transportation cost. This program contributes to the long-term development and growth of sibling of children with special needs,. The education and skills acquired through these programs can lead to improved opportunities, economic independence, and a better quality of life.
