What We Do
Comprehensive, evidence-based programs designed to address the diverse needs of children with disabilities and their families through education, healthcare, and community empowerment.
Our Projects

Mary Rice Special Needs Education
The Special Needs Education Project in the Edmund Rice Centre Nairobi, is tailored to meet the individualized needs of learners with disabilities, learning differences, and exceptionalities from Kibera slums and its surrounding areas. The goal of this project is to provide these learners with the necessary support and skills to help them access education, develop essential skills, and reach their fullest potential
Health and Nutrition
The Health and Nutrition Project entails Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physiotherapy (PT)services. Nutrition services involve providing personalized guidance, support, and resources to address the unique dietary needs and challenges of individuals with disabilities. The integration of these services aims to address the specific challenges and needs of children with disabilities so as to promote independence and facilitate active participation in educational and social environments. The goal of this project is to promote the physical, mental, and emotional health of children with disabilities from Kibera slums.

Socio-Economic Empowerment
The Socio-Economic Empowerment project aims to support children with disabilities and their households in improving their overall quality of life, enhancing their opportunities for education, independence, and social inclusion. The project does this by equipping these learners and their households with a range of skills that promote independence, self-sufficiency, and financial independence through IGAs. Other skills include Pre-Vocation training skills in beadwork, mat making, urban farming, catering, dressmaking, hairdressing/barbering, and soap making.
Advocacy & Community Outreach
The goal of an advocacy project in the Edmund Rice Centre Nairobi is to raise awareness, promote understanding, and advocate for improved access, quality, and inclusivity in education for individuals with special needs from Kibera slum. Advocacy plays a crucial role in ERCN by raising awareness, promoting inclusivity, driving policy changes, and ensuring that individuals with special needs have access to quality education and support from parents, the community, and the government.
